The Parkhotel Pörtschach, built to plans by architect Kurt Köfer and opened in 1963, is a milestone in touristic architecture. Located on the famous Wörthersee lake in Carinthia, its clever placement and carefully laid out floor plan offer a coveted lake view from both sides of the building. Another unique characteristic of the property, which has been owned by the same family since the late 1960s, stands out: Except for a few careful renovations, the original interior has largely been retained. As part of the hotel’s most recent renovations, we had the pleasure of installing our Metropolitan chandelier, an icon of mid-century design, in the lobby. Designed at almost the same time as the hotel, it is the perfect choice. The business owner’s passion for quality, authenticity, and reliability helped him arrive at the decision to put in a Lobmeyr chandelier. In Pörtschach, we installed the world’s third-largest model of the famous design: a proud three metres in diameter. Only the chandeliers in the Metropolitan Opera and in the private residence of the rapper Drake are larger. A side note for hip-hop fans: The chandelier in Pörtschach has the same finish as Drake’s.
