New York City’s famous design museum on Museum Mile has been collecting Lobmeyr glassware at least since the 1925 Art Deco exhibition in Paris. In 2009, the museum acquired another collection of 162 outstanding Lobmeyr glass pieces illustrating the period from 1835 to 2008, almost the entire history of the company. This inspired Ted Muehling to curate a finely detailed Lobmeyr exhibition titled “Ted Muehling Selects: Lobmeyr Glass from the Permanent Collection”. Opening in April 2010, the exhibition showcased more than 100 Lobmeyr works alongside original design drafts and other pieces from the collection. The Cooper Hewitt exhibition and collections show how the design history of the last 200 years can be told through Lobmeyr’s work, which spans several generations.
