The 1950s were a good time for quality chandeliers. In the midst of reconstruction, an up-and-coming city like Vienna wanted to regain its importance and start to shine again. The international hotels naturally went with the flow, and the Ambassador on Neuer Markt was decorated with new bespoke designs that have since emerged as modern classics. Of particular note are the floral basket chandeliers from 1953 with filigree brasswork and small hand-cut crystal hearts, some even filled with colour.
