When a new concert hall—the Megaron of Music—was built in Athens for the 2004 Olympic Games, Lobmeyr was the only company with the proven capacity to build earthquake-proof chandeliers of extraordinary size. The concert hall is mostly underground; only the top floor with the foyer is visible from the exterior. Three different designs for five staircases were developed together with architect Ernst W. Beranek. The largest chandelier, designed by Stefan Rath, is almost 20 metres high and weighs more than two tonnes. For Lobmeyr, this was the biggest project of the still young millennium.
