DRINKING SET NO.1003

Vera Liskova, 1948

“The museum is fulfilling an important duty in showing a selection of Lobmeyr glass to the public, for it illustrates to a high degree contemporary principles of design combining quality of form with quality of material.

The beautiful shapes shown are the result of a long history of consistent co-operation between an enterprising manufacturer and the best available artists, architects, and designers,” comments Philip C. Johnson, director of the MoMA Department of Architecture and Design on the occasion of the MoMA’s 1949 Lobmeyr exhibition he curated. Alongside classic shapes by Hoffmann, Haerdtl, and Loos, the novel Drinking Set No.1003 by young Czech designer Vera Lišková stands on its own.

After the war, a four-digit range of numbers was used for three sets, before returning to the original system with No.267. We are reissuing a particularly delicate variant of the decanter and five stackable tumblers in honour of our bicentennial anniversary.
