Stefan Sagmeister (*1962 in Bregenz) is an Austrian graphic designer and typographer living and working in New York City.
He has received two Grammy Awards for album cover design.
Sagmeister is also highly respected for his poster and magazine designs. Since June 2012, he has operated the agency alongside designer Jessica Walsh under the name Sagmeister & Walsh. In 2018, they were invited to design the Austrian pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale. Together with Walsh, Sagmeister designed comprehensive exhibitions such as “The Happy Show” and “Beauty”, which were and still are on display in many major museums around the world.
Sagmeister graduated from the Graphische applied arts school and went on to study graphics and design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
In 1993, he founded his agency, Sagmeister Inc., in New York, becoming known for, among other things, CD cover designs and packaging for such famous musicians as Lou Reed, the Rolling Stones, David Byrne, and Aerosmith.
