In his letter dated 1885 Rudolph Habsburg writes to his
brother-in-law Prince Philip of Coburg regarding the 50th
birthday of the Belgian King:
“Dear Philipp,
I have gone into some trouble regarding the gift for the
50th birthday of our father-in-law, and have come to
the conclusion that beautiful objects of glass from the
Lobmeyr factory would be most suitable. They are an
Austrian speciality and represent the best that our industry
produces …”
King of Siam, Mao Tse-tung, Ludwig II. of Bavaria, Swedish royal family, Khedive
of Egypt, Maharajah of Baroda; the Imperial Courts of Vienna, Madrid, Stockholm,
Athens, … and Inspector Columbo, who purchased a vase for his wife.
